Mid Kerry rallies to help fund treatment for Siobhán

- By EVE DOWLING

SHE’S just two-years-old but little Siobhán Mather has spent most of her young life in hospital undergoing treatment for an extremely rare cancer.

Born to Glencar parents Sarah and Anthony, Siobhán lives in London where she is being treated for Stage Four Neuroblastoma but due to the high risk of relapse in the rare cancer, Siobhán is now n dire need of treatment that is only available in the USA.

But she has the support of the people of mid Kerry who will host a special fundraising dance to help get her Stateside.

The dance will take place on Saturday, February 17, in The Manor Inn, Killorglin, beginning at 10pm. Music will be by Ger ‘The Singing Jarvey’ Healy and a ‘monster’ raffle will also take place on the night.

Tickets can be bought on the door on the night. It’s the latest fundraising venture in the mid Kerry area. During the Christmas period, Siobhán’s Kerry family and friends organised several events to help raise money towards the cost of treatment and other expenses to get her to the USA.

In total, €250,000 is needed for Siobhán to be able to travel for the treatment needed to prevent the cancer from relapsing.

The brave two-year-old has already overcome being on life support, has undergone chemotherapy – including high intensity chemotherapy – and stem cell treatment.

The courageous little girl made it home to Kerry just in time for Christmas but is due to start Radiotherapy later this month.

Siobhán’s family is so grateful for all that has been organised around Kerry to date, especially through local schools and they have thanked everyone who has helped out in the fundraising efforts in any way.

Siobhán’s cancer is so rare it affects just 100 children in the UK per year. She was diagnosed last year after her parents took her to her GP and noticed she was quite sluggish.
