The Sem recover to see off a determined De La Salle

-

St Brendans College 0-17 De La Salle Macroom 0-13

A SHAKY start aside, St Brendans College kept their three year undefeated streak in the Corn Uí Mhuirí going in Ballyvourney last Wednesday afternoon as they had four points to spare over a game De La Salle Macroom outfit. Macroom led by 0-5 to 0-3 after 12 minutes and The Sem were relived a goalbound shot from Macroom’s Jack Kelliher was deflected out for a ‘45’. Thomas Collins and Liam Twohig went close for green flags as well for the Cork side but the Sem managed to reel off five unanswered points, two from Ciaran Flynn, to lead at half-time by 0-8 to 0-5.

In all though Macroom’s 20 minutes without a score came against them as the Sem were more in control of proceedings in the second period. Niall McCarthy and Patrick D’Arcy were amongst the scorers as McCarthy finished with five points on the day. The Sem had eight different scorers in their win with Lorcan MacMonagle, Darragh Lyne and All-Ireland Minor All-Star Cian Gammell amongst their scorers.

The Sem won’t get carried away with advancing to their fifth consecutive Semi-Final, not when they know arguably the greatest challenge to their present run looms in the form of Pobalscoil Corcha Dhuibhne. The 3-10 to 0-19 draw between the two sides in the Group Stages leaves everything delicately poised ahead of what has the potential to be an epic encounter.
