MUNSTER JUNIOR CUP LAST32 Killarney Celtic 7 Ballingarry 2

KILLARNEY Celtic dominated this home game in the Last 32 of the Munster Junior Cup against Ballingarry. They scored twice in a seven-minute spell midway through the first half with Wayne Sparling getting both.

His first came after good Celtic pressure led to Danny Roche setting him up while the second came from the tightest of angles out on the right wing.

Two became three in the 53rd minute when Peter McCarthy got the first of his second half hat-trick. Ballingarry got one back in the 55th minute when Dean Clancy pounced on a defensive mistake but just five minutes later Celtic hit the net again thanks to McCarthy’s second..

Ballingarry got their second from the penalty spot in the 65th minute when Clancy made no mistake after Tony Quaid was fouled to close the gap to 4-2.

However from there it was all Celtic with McCarthy claiming the match ball with his third in the 66th minute. Matt Keane made it 6-2 in the 70th minute and Anthony O’Leary struck the final blow to Ballyingarry in 83rd minute.

Celtic will now go to the winners of the Waterford Crystal and Youghal United in the next round. This game will be played on the weekend of Sunday February 11.

CG Killarney 1 Janesboro (Limerick) 10

CG Killarney’s fairytale run in the Munster Junior Cup came to an abrupt end at Celtic Park in Killarney on Sunday when they went down heavily to formidable Limerick side Janesboro. It was a David v Goliath game from which there was only going to be one outcome. CG simply just could not cope with a strength of their opponents who won the game with the greatest ease.

However it has been a great experience for the club playing in the provincial competition for the very first time and they can be proud of their achievements. Their major priority now will be to get back to the domestic scene and make a serious bid to make it to the Division 1A league final. The CG goal was scored by John Foley.
