Let’s hope Mary Lou is a new broom and not the same old story

SIR, So Mary Lou has climbed to the top of the ladder. Did anyone doubt her getting the position? It would be nice to think that it might bring changes to Sinn Féin. A chance to sweep the carpet clean as it were, or even wipe some of the bloodstains away.

For years and years now the elected of Sinn Féin have failed to take the seats that they are entitled to. What are they afraid of? Could they not fight even harder and get more for their people by being inside the room rather than being outside and merely looking through the windows.

Could Mary Lou be the one to bring in sweeping changes or will she just be a figurehead for the men in the shadows. Time will of course tell, in the meanwhile we can at least hope for change rather than the same old rhetoric.

The old guard on both sides of the fence have had their day and it’s time for the younger brigades to come forth and offer something new. The people of the North deserve to be allowed to live in peace. God knows we have more than enough terror worldwide. It’s time to get our act together at home. Sincerely,
