‘The Force’ is with 29th Páidí foot­ball fes­ti­val

A TO­TAL of 1,200 play­ers com­pris­ing of teams from South Korea, Ger­many, the UK and 12 coun­ties from the four prov­inces of Ire­land will com­pete in the Lidl Comór­tas Peile Páidí Ó Sé 2018, which takes place 16-18 Fe­bru­ary in West Kerry, also sup­ported by Lee Strand Milk, EJMenswear.com and Kerry County Coun­cil Tourism Unit.

The famed club Gaelic foot­ball tour­na­ment and fes­ti­val cel­e­brates its 29th year which makes it one of the big­gest and long­est run­ning club com­pe­ti­tions in GAA his­tory. 40 club teams com­pete in ladies and men’s se­nior, in­ter­me­di­ate and ju­nior com­pe­ti­tions in over 10 GAA venues across the Din­gle Penin­sula, Tralee, Blen­nerville and Fossa as well as teams at­tend­ing cul­tural and so­cial events at Comór­tas HQ, Páidí Ó Sé’s pub in Ven­try. Kil­dare side Rathangan, un­der the man­age­ment of for­mer Kil­dare All-star Karl O’Dwyer, son of the great Micko Dwyer, will line out in the in­ter­me­di­ate men’s com­pe­ti­tion against Keel, Anascaul, Lis­pole as well as Ty­rone’s Augher St Macar­tan’s and St. John’s of Sligo.


The force is with Comór­tas 2018 as it will open a Star Wars themed pho­to­graphic and video exhibition on Sun­day, 18th Fe­bru­ary at 5pm at Páidí Ó Sé’s pub. En­ti­tled, ‘AN FÓRSA’, it cel­e­brates the link be­tween Cor­cha Dhuib­hne and the Star Wars film se­ries and will in­clude the images of many cel­e­brated Kerry pho­tog­ra­phers. Free to at­tend, you can ex­pect to see many of the films main char­ac­ters walking among the crowds in­clud­ing Storm Troop­ers and Jedi Knights.


Daingean Uí Chúis and Ard­fert will com­pete in the se­nior men’s cup while Anascaul, Lis­pole and Keel line out in the in­ter­me­di­ate men’s cup. Rath­more and Na Gaeil are up against de­fend­ing cham­pi­ons Bally­bo­den St. Enda’s in the se­nior ladies cup while Cor­cha Dhuib­hne are the only Kerry side in the in­ter­me­di­ate ladies com­pe­ti­tion. In the ju­nior ladies, three clubs will com­pete in­clud­ing Bal­ly­ma­cel­lig­ott, Fossa and Din­gle Ladies. For a pro­gramme of events and a full list of teams visit www.paid­iose.com
