‘The Force’ is with 29th Páidí football festival

A TOTAL of 1,200 players comprising of teams from South Korea, Germany, the UK and 12 counties from the four provinces of Ireland will compete in the Lidl Comórtas Peile Páidí Ó Sé 2018, which takes place 16-18 February in West Kerry, also supported by Lee Strand Milk, EJMenswear.com and Kerry County Council Tourism Unit.

The famed club Gaelic football tournament and festival celebrates its 29th year which makes it one of the biggest and longest running club competitio­ns in GAA history. 40 club teams compete in ladies and men’s senior, intermedia­te and junior competitio­ns in over 10 GAA venues across the Dingle Peninsula, Tralee, Blennervil­le and Fossa as well as teams attending cultural and social events at Comórtas HQ, Páidí Ó Sé’s pub in Ventry. Kildare side Rathangan, under the management of former Kildare All-star Karl O’Dwyer, son of the great Micko Dwyer, will line out in the intermedia­te men’s competitio­n against Keel, Anascaul, Lispole as well as Tyrone’s Augher St Macartan’s and St. John’s of Sligo.

AN FÓRSA

The force is with Comórtas 2018 as it will open a Star Wars themed photograph­ic and video exhibition on Sunday, 18th February at 5pm at Páidí Ó Sé’s pub. Entitled, ‘AN FÓRSA’, it celebrates the link between Corcha Dhuibhne and the Star Wars film series and will include the images of many celebrated Kerry photograph­ers. Free to attend, you can expect to see many of the films main characters walking among the crowds including Storm Troopers and Jedi Knights.

KERRY CLUBS

Daingean Uí Chúis and Ardfert will compete in the senior men’s cup while Anascaul, Lispole and Keel line out in the intermedia­te men’s cup. Rathmore and Na Gaeil are up against defending champions Ballyboden St. Enda’s in the senior ladies cup while Corcha Dhuibhne are the only Kerry side in the intermedia­te ladies competitio­n.
