COFFEE MORNING FOR CANCER
OVER €2,000 RAISED FOR CANCER SOCIETY OVER A CUP OF COFFEE
THE old adage coffee is the best ‘pick me up’ was in rich evidence at Reidy’s Bar, Killarney last Tuesday morning as a pre-Strictly Come Dancing cuppa event helped raise over €2,000 for The Irish Cancer Society.
It’s all thanks to an idea by Killarney man Gda Mike Milner who decided a little extra initiative would do no harm ahead of the big dance-off at the INEC. Mike was also one of the contestants strutting his stuff at the event where along with dance partner Denise Collins - former Cork Rose of Tralee contestant, 2016 – they both enjoyed a memorable few days helping what Mike describes as a ‘very worthy cause’.
“It was a very well supported coffee morning and I couldn’t thank the people enough who turned out. It helped raise awareness about cancer which is the most important thing,” he said.
Guest speakers on the day were Eugene O’Sullivan, Chairman of the Killarney/ South Kerry Branch of the Irish Cancer Society, and Garda Superintendent Flor Murphy. Mike was also keen to thank Pat and Niamh Sheehan for hosting the event.
And how did Mike enjoy the whole Strictly experience?
“I was delighted with it and to be honest once I got the call asking would I take part, I didn’t hesitate as cancer is something that affects every family. I know events like this are first and foremost about raising money, but raising awareness among people of the services available is just as important,” Mike added.
