Ó Muircheartaigh offers words of encouragement for camogie players
LAST Friday night the camogie community in Kerry gathered at the Ballyroe Heights Hotel to pay tribute to those players, juvenile and senior, who brought so much glory to the county in 2017.
Cathaoirleach Tom Meehan said it was a great honour to be associated with so many people who gave so much in the advancement of the sport in the county. He remarked that it was noteworthy that success was achieved at so many age levels from U14 to Senior and this boded well for the future of Kerry Camogie.
Special guest was the legendary Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh who he gave an inspiring speech in which he asked all players to adhere to the mantra of ‘Never Give Up’. He spoke about meeting players down through the years who had achieved great success but who also had experienced disappointment. He imparted the same advice to ‘Cailíní Camógaíochta’ as he had to those other players urging them to remember that there will always be competitions that have not been won yet.
Medals were presented to the U-14, U-15, Minor and senior Kerry teams and to Clanmaurice Camogie Club. Tributes were paid to the coaches whose selfless efforts were key to garnering success at the various levels. It was also hoped that Kerry Camogie would go from strength in 2018 and that the sport would be developed in other areas of the county.
