Sugrue has Laois in promotion spot after three rounds

-

THE Laois footballers, under the management of Renard native and Portlaoise resident John Sugrue, are flying high in Division 4 with maximum points after three rounds. Laois lie second in the division, on the same points as neighbours Carlow, and separated only by the narrowest of margins in points difference, +20 for Carlow and +19 for Laois.

A convincing 2-12 to 0-9 win over Limerick gave Sugrue the ideal start to his managerial term in his adopted county, and this was followed up with a 3-16 to 3-10 win over Leitrim in Carrick-on-Shannon.

Last weekend the Leinster county continued their positive start to the year with a 0-18 to 1-11 over Waterford. As the table stands after three rounds, Laois have beaten the bottom three teams, and so far tough fixtures ahead against Carlow, Antrim, London and Wicklow, who they visit next in Aughrim.

Nevertheless, former Kerry senior team trainer Sugrue will have to be very satisfied with results and performances so far, and promotion out of the basement division must be a priority.
