Two draws have Evans’ Wicklow playing catch-up

-

AFTER previous involvement with Tipperary, Roscommon and Meath, Killorglin native John Evans has hitched his managerial star to the Wicklow footballers and is still looking for his first win of the National League in Division 4.

An opening round draw with Waterford eased the Laune Rangers man back into inter-county management after a spell on the sideline with Fossa, but the Wicklow men suffered a 1-16 to 0-10 defeat away to London in the next round.

Round 3 sent Evans and his players on another long trip, this time to Belfast to face Antrim, where the counties played out a 0-12 apiece draw, leaving Wicklow lying fifth in the table on 3 points, behind Carlow (6), Laois (6), Antrim (5) and London (3).

Next up for Evans is a meeting with another Kerry man as John Sugrue’s Laois are visitors to Aughrim on Sunday week, and anything other than a home win will leave Wicklow’s promotion hopes hanging by a very thin thread.
