SENIOR LEAGUE Dr Crokes 5-18 Rathmore 1-2

DR Crokes goals were scored by Mark O’Shea (3), Michael Potts (1) and Lorcan McMonagle (1).

Crokes lined out some young players including Jack Griffin, David Naughten, Billy Courtney, Michael Potts and Nelu Doherty. The Rathmore scorers were Mark Reen two points (frees), John Moynihan (one goal).

Best for Rathmore were Sean Riordan, Colm Kelly, Padraig Cronin, Cathal Murphy and Mark Reen.

Glenflesk 7-14 Firies 0-4

FIRIES travelled to Barraduff Community field on Sunday morning for the opening game of the season and ran into a Glenflesk team who looked hungrier and fitter than them at this early stage of the season. Firies tired hard to come in to game, but Glenflesk proved too strong for Firies on day.

Killcummin 0-9 Gneeveguilla 1-5

PLAYED in snowshowers in Kilcummin, which made handling difficult, both teams provided plenty of entertainment and plenty food for thought for the year ahead.

Half-time saw Gneeveguilla leading three points to two. A goal by Jn O Leary midway through the second saw Gneeveguilla lead by four points, but Kilcummin picked off their scores and at the death Dara Kelly kicked their winning score.

For Kilcummin Noel Duggan, Kieran Murphy, Padraigh Nagle and Damien O’Leary were best, while Gneeveguilla’s Conlon O’Connor, Dean Crowley and DJ Murphy showed well.

Fossa 1-14 Currow 0-5

FOSSA played Currow in the opening round of the East Kerry super league on Sunday morning.

It was a game that was typical of this time of year with heavy underfoot conditions and at times this game was played in a blizzard. Fossa played with the aid of a strong wind in the first half and with both teams rusty, scores were hard to come by, the cold conditions made ball handling very difficult also.

Fossa had the upper hand in the opening exchanges and held a four point lead at half-time, 0-7 to 0-3. Currow were looking to capitalise on the wind in the second half, but Fossa took complete control and a penalty which was scored by Tadgh O’Shea in the 11th minute of the half put the game beyond the reach of Currow.

To their credit, Currow never gave up and tried right to the end, but Fossa ran out comfortable winners. The game will have done both sides the world of good as conditions and fitness will improve in the weeks ahead with the county league just around the corner.

Forum

THE Munster club forum took place in Pairc Ui Chaoimh recently. The aim of the day was to improve and develop all clubs with club development topics linking the workshops during the day.

East Kerry / Kenmare clubs were well represented on the day. Over three hundred people attended the forum. Fionn Fitzgerald (Kerry captain) delivered a module during the morning session. This was an excellent way of networking with fellow Munster clubs. The links made will be of great assistance to all clubs in the future.
