WHILE news was coming through that Kerry versus Monaghan was falling foul of the weather not so the splendid Dromore field one of the venues of the famed Templenoe club.

It was great to see two experienced men of the game Pat Spillane and Frank O’Leary in conversation while observing the form of the next generation namely Pat Jr in midfield for Templenoe and Cian, Michael and Cian O’Leary to the fore for Renard.

This game was played in a very competitive lively manner all through and given that pitches all over the country were falling foul to the weather the quality of the surface (and of the game) was a credit to both teams and to the Templenoe grounds people.

The first half was nip and tuck all through. Some excellent kickers on view – Cian Hallisey 0-3,Teddy Doyle 0-3,Brian Crowley 0-2 and Pat Spillane 0-1 for Temple. Renard’s contribution came from Dara Fitzgerald 1-4, the goal a superbly struck penalty. Half-time Templenoe 0-9 Renard 1-4.

Renard started the second half with Mark Sugrue in at full-forward and this paid dividends as they took the lead at 1-9 to 0-10 seven minutes into the second half. From here on Templenoe took a firm grip and pushed on to lead 15 to 1-10 with fifteen minutes left.

Renard cut it to a single point with a Dara Fitzgerald free but Templenoe rattled off five points from Cian Hallisey (0-8 in total with three from play), Brian Crowley, Pat Spillane and Stephen O’Sullivan to take their tally to 0-20 not a bad days work in the month of February.

Dara Fitzgerald 1-10, Conor O’Leary 0-2 and Mark Sugrue 0-1 were Renard’s scorers. Templenoe will look forward to Division 1 and will be hoping to go a step further and take the intermediate with the county contingent back on duty.

Renard, meanwhile, are a young side they will take encouragement from this day out and shouldn’t fear 2018.
