-

We played our first South Kerry League game of the year on Sunday, against St Mary’s under new management of Eanna de Buis, Bernard Murphy and John D O’Shea. A minutes silence was observed in honour of Jimmy Clifford, our vice-president, who passed away during the week. With a new look young team, with six new starters we were on the scoreboard quickly, after 1minute with a point from Cormac O’Sullivan, the Marys came back quickly on the fourth, fifth and 10 minute with 3in a row. On the 15th minute the Marys sent a high ball into the square the ball was saved by Patrick Dwyer, a slight mistake and the ball ended up in our net. We came straight back with three points in a row. On the 17th minute we lost Stephen Donnelly to a hamstring injury, he was replaced by Eoin O’Sullivan, the Marys got two more points before half time, we went in on the break 1-04 to 0 – 05. After the break we were with a strong wind and picked up two quick points on the fifth and seventh minute to level the game. On the 12th minute a mess up with the Marys goalie dropping the ball allowed Eoin O’Sullivan to slot a low ball to the net. However, the Marys were not going to lie down they came back with two points in a row on the 18th and 20th minute, then on the 23rd minute Marys got a 35m free, the high ball dropped into the square between players and slid into the net. We showed great strength and came back with two great points on the 25th and 27th minute. Referee Ger O’Sullivan called time on a very entertaining game. A draw was a fair result with the final score St Mary’s two – 06 the Caseys 1-09.
