MUSIC, DANCE AND DRAMA STUDENTS PERFORM AT ANNUAL INEC CONCERT
MUSIC, dance and drama students attending the Killarney School of Music certainly won’t fear sizeable audiences down the line thanks to the unique opportunity of performing on the famous INEC stage on an annual basis.
The Killarney school’s yearly concert is a showcase of all that’s good about the Park Road facility and with 24 group performances there was an eclectic mix of talent on the stage.
It all kicked off with Padraig Buckley’s mixed instrumental students - 70 in all who opened the Sunday afternoon show with a selection of polkas and a toe-tapping medley.
It was an impressive sight and set the benchmark for the day as Mary Culloty’s Children’s Singing Group followed it up with beautiful renditions of the Connemara Cradle Song and Red is the Rose.
There were jigs and reels throughout the afternoon too, as accordions, concertinas, whistles, fiddles, pipes, harps and more filled the Killarney venue. And the ages ranged from just five years of age, to several students who have picked up an instrument for the first time in retirement.
Praise too must go to teachers such as Pauline Mahon, Mike Brosnan, Niamh Dalton, Greta Curtin, Maureen Hegarty, Marina Blyth, Sorcha O’Connor, Robert Fell, Tadhg Cronin, and John Connolly.
In typical fashion, Master of Ceremonies Ray O’Sullivan helped the afternoon’s entertainment flow and he also kept a watchful eye over his junior and senior classes as they entertained with some quirky recitations.
All in, it was yet another success and evidence of a increasingly rich tradition of music and drama in the Killarney area.
