Lucy and Ruth through to Junk Kouture area finals

-

CASTLEISLAND Community College Transition Year students, Lucy Setterfield and Ruth Borgeat have reached the regional finals of the Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture recycled fashion competition in UCH Limerick on March 9th.

There, they will have 60 seconds to impress the judges on the catwalk.

Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture is a national competition which aims to educate teenagers on the importance of recycling as the competition only allows the use of recyclable items that might otherwise be thrown in the bin.

Castleisland Community College is through to the next round with its entry entitled ‘Metallic Attraction.’

The students used a variety of recyclable items including old curtain lining, cans, a broken mirror and old necklaces to create their magnificent creation.

Considerable amounts of time and patience has gone into the design with the help of their art teacher Pia Thornton and their metalwork teacher, Jacinta Buckley.

While the public voting option is now closed for this stage of the competition, locals will have a chance to support Lucy and Ruth if they get through to the next round. This element of the competition is worth 10% of the overall marks received.

Keep an eye on the Castleisland Community College Facebook page.

If the girls are successful in the regional finals, they will attend the grand final on April 19, in Dublin.
