Important win for Dromid over Skellig

CAHIRSIVEE­N CREDIT UNION SOUTH KERRY LEAGUE Piarsaigh na Dromada 1-14 Skellig Rangers 1-7

PIARSAIGH na Dromada put in a strong second half performanc­e to see off a determined Skellig Rangers side in blustery but solid underfoot condition in Páirc an Phiarsaigh.

The first half was a cagey affair with both teams making some unforced errors. Darragh O’Sullivan kicked a great point into the strong wind following a Dromid point from a free by Niall O’Shea.

Shane O’Connor kicked the next point for Dromid after a great run. Dromid Pearses were dealt a sucker punch when Chris O’Driscoll got his hand on the end of a John Murphy pass to flick the ball into the net.

Murphy kicked the next point for the visitors as Dromid hit a purple patch. Points for Dromid from Chris Farley (3) and a Niall O’Shea free saw Skellig Rangers enter halftime with a 1-4 to 0-6 lead.

Skellig Rangers began the second half with intent, but registered some poor wides which were to prove costly as the game unfolded. Chris Farley opened the scoring in the second half with a free.

This was followed by a point by second half substitute Graham O’Sullivan after great work by John O’Shea in defence. A Diarmuid Keating point cancelled out a Niall O’Shea score.

The key score of the game was to come with ten minutes to go, Thomas Curran finished to the net from close range after good work from Niall O’Connor. Points from Dominic O’Sullivan, Gearoid O’Sullivan, Graham O’Sullivan and Niall O’Shea saw Dromid finish the game with a seven-point win.

Shane O’Connor, Niall O’Connor and Shane Ger O’Sullivan impressed for the home side while John Murphy and Bernard Walsh tried hard for the visitors.

St Michaels / Foilmore 0-10 Renard 0-9

ST Michaels / Foilmore opened the scoring a minute in with a point from play for Luke O’Shea.

Daragh Fitzgerald registered Renard’s first score after four and a half minutes with a pointed free. St Michaels / Foilmore added four unanswered points, three from Matthew O’Sullivan and one from Darren O’Sullivan. Renard responded well with three unanswered points, one each from Conor O’Leary, Kevin Kelly and Daragh Fitzgerald. James Moran and Mark Sugrue exchanged points to leave half-time score St Michaels / Foilmore 0-6 Renard 0-5.

Luke O’Shea again opened the scoring in the second half with a point from play a minute in. Nine minutes lapsed before the next score with a point from play from Daragh Fitzgerald for Renard followed by two more points from play from Conor O’Leary and Mark Sugrue.

St Michaels / Foilmore again responded with two points from play from Darren O’Sullivan. Daragh Fitzgerald added a further point from play for Renard. Darren O’Sullivan secured a win for St Michaels Foilmore with a pointed free to leave full-time score St Michaels Foilmore 0-10 Renard 0-9.

St Marys 0-10 Templenoe 4-8

TEMPLENOE put one on the board before Jack Daly quickly equalised.

A goal for Templenoe put the visitors ahead nine minutes in to the first half, followed by a consolatio­n point by Darren Casey for the home side. Templenoe had a free reign with the wind, scoring a further 2-4 before half-time, and a point from Daniel Daly and another from Templenoe left the half time score 0-3 to 3-6.

The second half saw St Marys point 0-7, with contributi­ons from Dan Daly (2), Denis Daly (2), Paulie O’Donoghue (2) and Darren Casey, but a fourth goal from Templenoe and two more points secured the win for the visitors.

Coaching Officers Meeting

South Kerry Board Clubs Coaching officers meeting will take place on Thursday, March 1 at 8pm in Ring of Kerry Hotel. It is important all clubs will have a coaching officer or club officer in attendance. A number of impor tant topics for the year ahead will be discussed on the night with South/Mid Kerry GDA PJ Reidy.
