SENIOR: Laune Rangers picked up their first points of the Mid Kerry Senior League on Sunday morning, with a four point defeat of Keel in JP O’Sullivan Park, Killorglin. Rangers got off to a bright start, and by the time Gary Sayers registered Keel’s first score of the game in the 10th minute with a pointed free, Rangers had already scored four points through Colm O’Shea, John Tyther, Jack O’Connor & an excellent 45’ from David Costelloe, while a Shane Mangan shot at goal had forced a good save by Keel netminder Stephen Cahillane. Shane Daly added a point to see Rangers lead by 0-5 to 0-1 with a quarter played. The remainder of the first half was more balanced, with points for Rangers coming through Shane Mangan, John O’Shea (2), & Cian O’Shea, while Gary Sayers -- lining up on the 40’ and marked by his brother Ronan -- added four frees as well as one from play leaving three between the sides at the break. Half Time Score:- Laune Rangers 0-9, Keel 0-6. Gary Sayers added another free shortly after the restart, but Rangers’ pressure began to draw frees in their favour with Colm O’Shea benefitting by pointing twice from 35 yards. John O’Shea and Gary Sayers traded points before Patrick Carey pointed to finish a fine team move. Another Colm O’Shea free was met by two Keel points as Barth Murphy and Dylan Prendergast added their names to the scoresheet. Dáire Cleary and Darragh O’Shea were introduced to give both players their Senior debuts and Cleary was quick to get his hands on the ball, passing to John O’Shea who kicked a fine point to leave Rangers leading by 0-15 to 0-10 with a quarter to play.

Some stout defending by the Rangers backs -- Cormac Johnston and Johnny Carey in particular -- snuffed out a few Keel chances, with youngest Carey brother Patrick & David Costelloe providing way out of danger with some great runs. Pa Carey, Shane Daly & Cian O’Shea linked up well to put Cian through on goal, but he couldn’t keep his shot under the crossbar and had to settle for a point. Jack O’Connor increased Rangers lead to 6 points, but Keel began to close the gap with late points from Aaron Murphy (2 frees) and Dylan Prendergast. However, Rangers were able to close out the game, and Colm O’Shea pointed the insurance score from a free to secure the win. Final Score:- Laune Rangers 0-18, Keel 0-14. In all, it was a good performance by Rangers with a number of players returning to the fold.
