St Anne’s boys take U-12 title with win over Tralee Imperials

U-12 BOYS DIVISION 2 St Anne’s 42 Tralee Imperials 28

BOTH teams started this league decider off at a quick pace. Tralee Imperials offensive play had St. Annes unsettled to begin with. However, this was not reflected on the scoreboard with St Anne’s leading12-10 at the end of the opening quarter. The second quarter saw the home team edging in front with Colm O’Riordan executing the fast break and Daithi O’Shea’s accurate shooting. The home team led 22-16 going into the second half. St. Annes gave it all in the third quarter both offensivel­y scoring 10 points and defensivel­y with Tralee only scoring two, thanks to some great rebounding from Rian Brosnan and Gearoid Evans. Although in the final quarter Tralee Imperials never gave up, with William O’Donoghue scoring 2 great baskets. However, this was not enough and St. Annes took the title finishing 42-28.

U14 BOYS DIVISION 1 Killarney Cougars 45 St Bridget’s 38

COUGARS hosted St Bridget’s at the Pres Gym and a strong first quarter set the Killarney side on the road to victory. Cougars Harry Kelly led the way with 10 points in the opening quarter and Darren Ryan with 6 points saw Cougars ahead 24-9 at half-time. The Currow side a strong third quarter and reduce the arrears thanks to strong performanc­es by John O’Connor and Raymond O’Neill 10 points as Cougars led entering the final quarter 32-27. The sides went basket for basket in the final quarter with Cougars just doing enough to secure the points with Cougars Jack O’Neill impressing adding 10 points in an entertaini­ng contest.

U-14 BOYS DIVISION 3

LAST Friday St Annes U-14 Boys Division 3 welcomed St Brendan’s. St Anne’s got the first score but St. Brendan’s came back very strong in first quarter. St. Brendan’s started second quarter strong but St. Anne’s fought back to narrow gap. St. Brendan’s dominated the third quarter but St Anne’s came back from a 29-13 in the fourth quarter to draw the game 3131. The game went to extra time with St. Brendan’s getting the winning basket.
