Litter comrades land double for Carmody

-

TIMMY Carmody’s run of success continued on Saturday afternoon’s card when the Ardfert handler produced a double on the 8-race card courtesy of litter comrades Ardfert Carmac and Carmac Luna (Scolari Me Daddy/ Carmac Cyrus).

Ardfert Luna returned the 5/2 favourite in Race 2, an A4 contest over the standard trip. The winner was slow to find her stride on the run to the bend from trap 3 but she checked wide at the opening curve and found plenty race room on the outside. She weaved her way through the field down the back straight and took up the running at the third. The winner was all out on the run home and just held on in a four-runner blanket finish in 29.66.

Ardfert Carmac posted an impressive time of 28.73 in Race 7 for grade A4. Also drawn in the white jacket, he showed good early pace and raced independent through the opening bends. He extended his advantage with every stride down the back straight and enjoyed a three-length cushion approaching the third. However, the wide running Youngfellathanks was coming with a run late on and Ardfert Luna was made to dig deep on the run home to repel the challenge of his rival by a length.

The PJ Sugrue owned Shancol Ranger (Laughill Blake/ Airfield Mistake) impressed when claiming the last race on the card and A4 contest over the standard trip. The 7/2 shot hadn’t scored in 7 attempts since last July but he produced the best run of his career thus far to secure victory on this occasion.

Drawn in trap 1, he really hit the ground running from trap rise and while he moved right across to the hare rail on the run down to the bend, he was still leading his rivals around the opening two bends. The winner stayed on gamely on the run home and crossed the line 1 ½ lengths clear of Ballydoyle Dan back in second

Other winners included Cournane Dick 29.30, Milridge Lexi 29.04, Mauras Wish 29.15, Paydayfiveo 29.63 and Eagle Express 29.26.
