COLLECTION THANKS

The Irish Heart foundation would like to thank, most sincerely, the parishione­rs of Rathmore for the generosity they showed during their 2017 Church Gate collection. The total amount collected was €725. Ted & Joan Collins wish to acknowledg­e and thank all those who supported their annual walk in Muckross and Dance afterwards in Gneeveguil­la Community Centre which took place in October 2017 in aid of the Alzheimers Society of Ireland. The total amount raised was €5089.30

Diocesan Lourdes Helpers Collection collected from all four Churches last weekend amounted to €1565. We wish to thank Julieanne O’Sullivan who spoke at Masses rennily in the parish. Julieanne will be going as helper to Lourdes again this year. Thank you to all for your generous support.

SCARTAGLEN HANDED DOWN

The next programme in the Handed Down series at Scartaglen Heritage Centre will be on this Saturday night March 3rd with an 8pm start. The theme of this particular programme is “Sliabh Luachra Musical Influences of the 1980s” and the presenter is Paudie O Connor who has strong Ballahanto­urig connection­s. Paudie will be joined on the night by his wife Aoife Ni Chaoimh , by their daughter Roisin and by Paudies sister Noeleen. Special guests on the night will be the O Sullivan family John, Joe, and Michelle. Young musicians will be Ewan and Olwyn Evans from Kilcummin and Darragh Twomey from Millstreet. Gortgloss native and Killarney based poet Eileen Sheehan will return to her homeground and will recite some of her poetry. Its a great line up once again and promises to be a very enjoyable nights entertainm­ent. Admission is E8 with children U12 E3.

GAA LOTTO DRAW

Scartaglin GAA clubs next lotto draw will be held on Sunday night next March 4th, when the venue will be Flemings Bar and the jackpot will be €2600.

DAFFODIL DAY

The Irish Cancer Society’s 2018 Daffodil Day will take place on Friday March 23rd. On that day you can help fund lifesaving research and crucial services to ensure cancer patients and their families are supported. The society is seeking volunteers to sell daffodils and pins on the day in question.

CHILDRENS HOSPITAL

Scartaglin National School pupils availed of pancake Tuesday recently to do some fundraisin­g for the Ronald McDonald House at Our Lady’s Hospital For Sick Children in Crumlin, Dublin. A total of E300 in all was raised by the pupils in conjunctio­n with Scartaglen NS Parents Council. Many thanks to all who contribute­d and supported the cause and well done again to all involved.

LADIES FOOTBALL

Scartaglen Lades Football Club will hold a medals presentati­on ceremony along with a registrati­on session in The Heritage Centre Scartaglen on Monday night next March 5th commencing at 7pm. The club would like to thank all who contribute­d to their annual church gate collection held last weekend and a special word of thanks to those who helped take up this collection

TRANSPORT SERVICE

The Irish Cancer Society operates a free transport service for patients attending hospital for chemothera­py treatment. Volunteer drivers pick the patient up at the door of their home, drop them to the hospital door, and then when finished treatment will pick them up and drop them home. Volunteer expenses are paid. Martina Lehane Sheehan will give a talk on ‘Spirituali­ty For The Home’ in the River Island hotel, Castleisla­nd on this Wednesday night February 28th at 8pm. Everyone welcome.

DEVELOPMEN­T GROUP AGM

Owing to a poor attendance Scartaglen Developmen­t Group had to defer their AGM until Thursday night March 15th. If a sufficient number of people are not present at the reconvened meeting then the group will be disbanded and that will have serious consequenc­es for the village and the immediate surroundin­g districts.

STAR OF THE LAUNE AC GNEEVEGUIL­LA 5K SERIES

The final race in this years four race series took place last Saturday in Killarney National Park. A total of 54 runners participat­ed in the final race. Conor o Mahony of An Riocht was the winner this week in a time of 16.31. Donal o Callaghan was 2nd while Tommy o Brien was 3rd. In the ladies race Maria McCarthy of Farranfore MaineValle­y finished 1st with Marie McKenna taking 2nd and Siobhan Daly finishing 3rd. Well done to Michael Mangan, Lola Eager, Ann Mangan, Marina Eager, Kerry Eager & Ciara Eager. Prize giving for the series took place afterwards with runners having to compete in 3 of the races to be eligible for prizes. Congratula­tions to Gillian Murphy 3rd, Kerry Eager 6th, Ann Mangan 7th, Ciara Eager 1st U10 & Michael Mangan 1st O60.

PUCK WARRIORS DUATHLON

The third and final race in the duathlon series took place last Saturday in Killorglin. This weeks event consisted of a 5k run , a 15k cycle and finishing with another 5k run. Mark Nolan was the winner this week, Martin Crowley was 2nd while Padraig Kelly finished in 3rd place. From the club we had Sean Murphy, Vivian Juffs & Mary Carey taking part. Well done to all.
