Intrepid efforts to get to the church on time

- By JOHN REIDY

INTREPID is a word you’d simply have to take out and dust down to describe the lengths members of the extended, and mainly Chicago-based, Nally family went to in order to get to Castleisland on Saturday for the wedding of their nephew, Ger O’Donoghue, to Juliette Fleming.

And their valiant efforts didn’t go unnoticed by their Cordal-domiciled sister and mother of the groom, Breda O’Donoghue.

“Six of my wonderful siblings, by all odds, made it from Chicago to Kerry through Storm Emma and all the snow,” said a delighted Breda on the big day.

“Tina and Sheila thankfully arrived safe in Kerry ahead of all the bad weather. The O’Riordans also landed safely before the weather hullabaloo started. Margaret was supposed to land in Dublin and get a flight to Kerry but had to land in Shannon.

“After two hours on the plane they disembarked and her husband drove from Newmarket to Shannon to collect her.

“John and Joan, Maureen, Eileen and nephew Luke and brother-in-law, Ben arrived, on Thursday in Dublin. There were no flights to Kerry on that day and they had to fend for themselves and rent cars to get to Kerry.

“So, all in all, we fought the storm and won against the odds. Today, 3-3-2018, will go down in history that the Fleming / O’Donoghue clans did not give up,” Breda continued.

“The couple couldn’t have come from nicer backgrounds. We all get on like the proverbial house on fire and always have each other’s back.

“Ger and Juliette will have been together for 10 years in October 2018 and family-wise they have been through thick and thin.

“Ger works for Neilie Dennehy Transport Currow and Farranfore and Juliette works in Prima Finance in Killarney. They have bought together in Knockbrack, Knocknagoshel,” said Breda in conclusion.

The wedding ceremony was performed by Monsignor Dan O’Riordan at the Church of Saints Stephen and John in Castleisland on Saturday afternoon from 1pm.

Juliette’s and Ger’s team included Maid of Honour, Jacqueline Fleming; Bridesmaids Joanne Fleming and Nora O’Donoghue. Best man, Brian O’Donoghue; and Groomsmen Adrian Fleming and Michael Daly.

The wedding reception was held at The Killarney Oaks Hotel and a great day was had by all. The couple will honeymoon on a cruise from Florida over the next two and a half weeks in what a family member described as the trip of a lifetime.

Juliette is a daughter of Tim and Josephine Fleming, Farranabrack, Castleisland and Ger is a son of Denis and Breda O’Donoghue, Cordal.
