What do a pirate, a dragon, a dog, a crayon, Fireman Sam and Little Red Riding Hood all have in common?

No, this isn’t the start of an awful joke, but in fact a list of the colourful characters that descended upon the Scallywags pre-school in Killarney last week, all in celebration of World Book Day.

“Here at the school, we operate a library system where the kids take different books home with them every week. This way, they are always getting to read new stories and new books,” said teacher, Patricia Quigley, talking to The Kerryman.

“We encourage parents and brothers and sisters to read books to the younger kids as much as possible,” Patricia finished.
