31st run for Kerry Drama Festival
AFTER the disappointment of Saturday night’s opening performance cancellation, the 31st Kerry Drama Festival went safely down its theatrical slipway on Sunday night.
And patrons travelled from far and near to be here. There was a group from Ballybunion and Athea as well as from all the neighbouring towns and parishes.
Nenagh players opened the proceedings with a stunning set and Tom Kempinski’s play Duet for One.
Island Players lighting specialist and this year’s Amateur Drama Council of Ireland Chairman, Aidan Reidy, and festival Director Jerome Stack and the group’s many volunteers were there in the foyer of the theatre to greet their patrons.
Local photographer John Keane has mounted an impressive collection of his studies from many parts of the county and this, in itself, is worth mulling over time on your way to the theatre.
The revised programme of events is from tonight, Wednesday 7, and is as follows:
Wednesday, March 7: Brideview Drama Group with: ‘Stolen Child’ by Bairbre Ní Chaoimh and Yvonne Quinn / Open section.
Thursday, March 8: Kilmeen Drama Group with: ‘The Shaughran’ by Dion Boucicault/ Open section.
Friday, March 9: Prosperous Dramatic Society with: ‘Sylvia’ by A.R.Gurney / Open section.
Saturday, March 10: Holycross/Ballycahill Drama Group with ‘Bold Girls’ by Rona Munro / Confined section.
Sunday, March 11: Sliabh Aughty Drama Group will present their play Moonglow by Kim Kearney / Confined section.
Final adjudication and presentation of trophies by festival adjudicator, Walker Ewart.
