The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)

Look back on a decade of life in Corca Dhuibhne

-

A decade of life in West Kerry will be recalled at this year’s Dingle Film Festival when RTE/TG4 video journalist Seán Mac an tSithigh (pictured right) presents a selection of his often unique and always enlightening news reports at a charity event in St James’s Church.

A Lone Ranger in the world of TV journalists, the Baile Eaglaise man does the work of cameraman, soundman, editor and reporter and he is to be seen with a camera on his shoulder when anything stirs in Corca Dhuibhne at any time of the day or night, come hail, rain or snow.

Seán hasn’t yet finalised what will be included in his newsreel retrospective, but it’s likely to include a look back on the snows of 2010 the devastation caused by Storm Darwin in 2014, some fond memories such as Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne’s Hogan Cup homecoming, along with more challenging issues such as the Dingle/ Daingean Uí Chúis controversy.

This ‘mix-um, gather-um’ of big news from a small place, told in Seán’s very personal and engaging style, will be followed by a question and answer session in which Seán will be joined for former RTE and TG4 presenter Aodh Ó Coileáin from Dingle.

The film festival runs from March 22 – 25 and Seán’s newreel night will be held at 7pm in St James’s on Friday 23rd. Tickets, which cost €10, can be booked on the Dingle Film Festival website and all the proceeds will be donated to the Dingle Camphill Community.
