Aodhán remembered at Cumann na mBunscol AGM

-

THE Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Chiarraí AGM was held in the Meadowlands Hotel Tralee on Monday evening last. Cathoirleach Tomás ó hAiniféin welcomed the delegates and opened the meeting with a prayer and moment’s silence in memory of Aodhán ó Conchúir, An Daingean, Amy O’Connor, Killarney and Yvonne O’Flaherty, Ardfert all of whom died at a young age during the past week. Ar dheis dé go raibh a ainmeacha.

Runaí Geraldine Behan gave a comprehensive account of last year’s AGM and in her secretaries report she congratulated all the various individuals and schools who had captured Allianz Cumann na mBunscol titles in liathróid láimhe, peil, iománaíochta, camógaíochta, Mini Sevens, tráth na gceist agus peil na gcailíní and she paid special tribute to Micheál Herlihy who had captured a national title in the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol, Cornmarket Awards in Fermanagh 2017. Micheál’s project traced the history and promotion of Gaelic Games in Loughfouder national school over a thirty year period. Comhgairdeachas leat a Mhichíl. Chairman Tomás ó hAiniféin thanked his fellow officers for their selfless promotion of Gaelic Games in the schools in the Kingdom and paid special tribute to all the co-ordinators of the various competitions.

He congratulated all who were selected to play in Croke Park via the Mini Sevens and all those who wore the coveted Primary Game jersey and the teachers who had overlooked the selection process.

He wished Mary Jo Curran and her team of workers all the best with their project, From Cumann na mBunscol to Páirc an Chrócaigh.

In this project Glenbeigh teachers, pupils and parents have traced the progress of all past pupils who featured in last years Junior All Ireland success with Glenbeigh/ Glencar.

He also wished the Ardfert digital project edited and compiled by teacher Dolores Martin all the best in the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Cornmarket Awards ceremony which takes place in the Newpark Hotel in Kilkenny on Friday next 9th of March.

He thanked Micheál Herlihy for editing the county PR material which has also being short-listed for a National Award.

The chairman acknowledged the successful Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Cross-Country competition organised by Coolard principal Margaret Kissane and her team of helpers.

The realignment of some of the schools competitions was discussed at length and a regarding meeting for the 2018/19 season has been scheduled for June 2018.

Delegates were reminded that Allianz Cumann na mBunscol policy is to provide a regular schedule of games for boys and girls in the respective competitions and therefore, in regard to Day Blitzes at regional level it was agreed that only winners of the blitzes organised and under the supervision of teachers with prior permission of county committee would progress to county competitions.

Past pupil of Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn and former world handball champion Karen Ní Leathlabhair was elected as assistant to Seán Ó Domhaill in the promotion of handball and the coiste supported a motion to the National AGM regarding the promotion of Gaeilge do Bhliain na Gaeilge 2018.

The outline of the schedule for the year was agreed though all is weather dependent. Regional Mini Sevens before Easter or first week back. County Mini Sevens finals first week back or week April 16-20 followed by the Mini Sevens hurling and camogie.

Allianz Cumann na mBunscol girls football and boys hurling leagues will follow and the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Quiz will be organised to coincide with the Primary Game trials.

It was with deep sadness that we learned on Tuesday last that Jerry Brosnan, father of runaí Geraldine Behan, breathed his last. Jerry was a true Gael and a great supporter of Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Chiarraí.

He was a regular at our games and finals in Austin Stacks Park and a huge supporter of The primary Game when he watched out for emerging talent. Jerry will be greatly missed.

We extend the sympathies of all involved with Allianz Cumann na mBunscol to Geraldine and all his family.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
