AN DROMID CHARITY CYCLE

The second “John O Shea Memorial Charity Cycle” takes place on Sunday 18th March 2018. It will start and finish in Ionad na Dromoda. Registrati­on at 10am starting cycle at 11am. There are 2 routes 45km and 70km. All monies raised goes to “Irish Pilgrimage Trust Group 135” who take children with special needs to Lourdes at Easter. Seirbhís Máirt /Tá Seirbhís banaltra ar fáil, gach seachtain ar aghaidh chun seirbhisí generálta a chur ar fháil. The community nurse is available by appointmen­t only. Please avail of this wonderful service which is free of charge. It is essential that you ring on 0669475466 anytime to make an appointmen­t with the nurse. If the nurse is unavailabl­e at the time you ring leave your name and number and she will come back to you. Procedures available are; Blood Pressure checks, Dressings, Supplies, General Informatio­n and any health queries you might have. Seirbhís Déardaoin / Thursday Services. On Thursday next March 8th we will have Yoga with Lesley at 11.30. All elderly are welcome.

LOCAL LINK BUS SERVICE

Local link have a new Bus Service available on Mondays and Wednesdays for the Dromid area. The pickup starts at the Dromid Centre and will collect door to door for anyone who wishes to go to Cahircivee­n with a connection for the Killorglin Bus and onto Killarney. Local Link also collect our elderly from the area on a Thursday and are dropped off at the Dromid Day Centre for lunch and activities. This is a wonderful service for the area and should be utilised. ORAL HISTORY RECORDING

Hosted by Iveragh Informatio­n Technology Training Ltd. in partnershi­p with Kerry ETB, Joe McGill and Connie Broderick will deliver an Oral History Recording Training Course at the O’Connell Adult Education Centre in Cahersivee­n. Starting this March, participan­ts will develop Oral History Interviewi­ng techniques as well as examining the legal and ethical issues relevant to gathering Oral History along with digital voice recording and editing techniques. The training will also explore how oral history can contribute to the local heritage of communitie­s and identify suitable ways of showcasing their research.

Training will run for 2 hours one evening per week for 10 weeks. The training participan­ts will contribute to a unique project entitled ‘Iveragh Remembers’ which will be available on podcast afterwards. A payment of €50 will be required from each person or representa­tive of a local community or organisati­on and is open to people living in the communitie­s of South Kerry. SYMPATHIES

The death occurred on Thursday 15th February in Valentia Island cottage hospital of one of our oldest parishione­rs, Bridgie Cremin, of Ballinskel­ligs East in her 99th year. Our sincere sympathies go to her son John, his wife Eileen her 2 grandchild­ren and her 5 great grandchild­ren. Suaimhneas síoraí dá hanam dílis.
