Munster Sports Stars: Congratulations to Shona O’ Brien who has been nominated for a Munster Award. Due to have taken place on Friday last, the function has been cancelled for another two weeks.
Kerry Indoors: Next Saturday March 10th the Kerry Indoor Sports Hall competitions will be held in Milltown. It would be nice to see all our athletes born 2007, 2008, 2009 or 2010 in attendance. Any child born 2007 2010 that won a county, national or provincial medal in 2017 is not eligible to compete. Best of luck to all out athletes.

IVERAGH ORAL HISTORY RECORDING
Training Course Hosted by Iveragh Information Technology Training Ltd. in partnership with Kerry ETB, Joe McGill and Connie Broderick will deliver an Oral History Recording Training Course at the O’Connell Adult Education Centre in Cahersiveen. Starting this March, participants will develop Oral History Interviewing techniques as well as examining the legal and ethical issues relevant to gathering Oral History along with digital voice recording and editing techniques. The training will also explore how oral history can contribute to the local heritage of communities and identify suitable ways of showcasing their research.
Training will run for 2 hours one evening per week for 10 weeks. The training participants will contribute to a unique project entitled Iveragh Remembers which will be available on podcast afterwards. A payment of €50 will be required from each person or representative of a local community or organisation and is open to people living in the communities of South Kerry. KILGARVAN DEATHS:
Ena McGuirk (née O’Donovan), Dromleigh, Bantry and formerly of Kenmare, passed away on 26th February 2018. Ena is mother in law of Mick Roger O’Sullivan, Kilgarvan. To her daughter Antoinette, sons Ken and Don and extended family we express our deepest sympathy.
Celine Barrett, Rathfarnham, Dublin, formally Twomey Railway Road, Kilgarvan passed away last week. Her funeral mass took place in Dublin on Wednesday 28th February 2018. To her husband Liam, daughters Paula and Caitriona and son David , sisters Bernie and Mary, brother Paddy and extended family we express our deepest sympathy.
Teresa McGivern (nee McSherry), Co Down passed away suddenly at Daisy Hill Hospital Newry on 2nd March 2018. Teresa is a sister of Bridie Dillon, Churchground, Village North, Kilgarvan. To her children Jackie, Andy, Conor and Damian, sister Bridie and extended family we express our deepest sympathy.
ATHLETICS
Munster Indoor Athletic Championships were held at the Nenagh Indoor Arena on the week-end of February 24th and 25th 2018. In the boys under 17 Shot Putt competition Gary Randles placed 1st. Christine McCarthy placed 2nd in the girls High Jump. Rhona Randles in the girls under 17 placed 2nd in the 1500 meters and 3rd in the 800 meters respectively.
Cross Country: In the Munster Schools Cross Country held in Waterford IT on Friday 23rd, Timothy O’ Donoghue, Ards representing Pobalscoil Inbhear Sceine placed a creditable 23rd in the Munster Boys 2500M final.
COMMUNITY GAMES
Art: Congratulations to Beth McCarthy who won the County Kerry Under 14 Girls Community Games Art Final. Alex McCarthy placed 3rd in the Girls Under 12 competition.
Handwriting: In the Girls under 12 Amy Mitchell placed 1st.
Draughts: In the under 10 Draughts team, the Greater Kenmare team placed 1st. Colm Kelleher was on that team. The Kenmare under 12 and 14 teams placed 2nd in both events. On the under 12 team were Kieran O’ Sullivan, Sebhirin Twomey and Cathal Kelleher. Sinead O’ Reilly and Jimmy Kelleher were members of the under 14 team. These finals were held in the Convent School, Listowel.
