Get out and support Daffodil Day
LAST year almost 1,150 people in Kerry diagnosed with cancer, a statistic very much in mind in recent days at the launch of the Kerry Daffodil Day campaign.
Daffodil Day takes place on March 23 and all in Kerry are urged to support the Irish Cancer Society’s biggest fundraiser.
Support for cancer patients is vital according to retired Chief Superintendent Pat Sullivan, a volunteer driver from Tralee who brings chemotherapy pa- tients to their appointments.
Speaking at the launch he urged people to support the event. “I’ve been a volunteer driver for over a year now and it’s great to be able to lighten a person’s load when they are going through cancer,” said Pat.
“This service helps to reduce the financial strain on cancer patients and ensures they have a way of getting to their lifesaving treatment,” Pat said.
Last year 521 journeys were facilitated for 51 patients from Kerry who used the service to travel for chemotherapy.
Killarney Daffodil Day Committee Chairperson Eugene O’Sullivan hosted last week’s launch. “People of Kerry have been instrumental in raising funds to help people affected by cancer, and we hope to see another show of support on March 23,” he said.
Boots is a main sponsor and stores in Kerry will participate.
