The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Killarney hosts Mountain Festival
THE weather didn’t help but it didn’t deter the hardy organisers and participants this past weekend as they delved into the inaugural Killarney Mountain Festival.
The festival, which is organised in partnership with Kendal Mountain Festival, was billed as one that celebrates everything outdoors in the Killarney area and involved a large number of events across the weekend.
Included was a 10k run, Ireland’s highest climbing wall and an interactive exhibition with the SARDA Search Dogs and Kerry Mountain Rescue Team.
There was an impressive exhibition by photographer Billy Horan too in Killarney House, with some spectacular mountain images, while Cal Major’s film ‘Skyes the Limit’ won best short film. And there were workshops, guest speakers, competitions and plenty of family fun and entertainment at the impressive base camp on Beech Road.
Well done to all involved.
