Hospice hold first AGM since passing of Ted Moynihan

KERRY Hospice Foundation’s Simon Moynihan has admitted that the charity’s first AGM without his father, the late Ted Moynihan, was a difficult one for him to experience.

Ted. a founding member of the hospice, passed away earlier this year and Simon said that much of the meeting was spent remembering Ted and his immense contribution to the Foundation.

“It was strange not having him there, that’s for sure. There was lot of us speaking about how much we were all going to miss Teddy. It was definitely a hard time,” said Simon, speaking to The Kerryman on Monday.

In a wonderful gesture, Ted’s wife Breda received a very special honour on the night after she was named Honorary President of the Hospice.

“She had been there through my dad’s side through all of his work so it was a wonderful honour for her to receive,” Simon continued.

The annual meeting also elected a number of different people to positions on the night - Joe Hennebry was named as Chairman of the fundraising commitee, Dan Galvin as the Vice-Chairman, Mary Shanahan as Secretary, Máiread Fernane as Treasurer, Andrea O’Donoghue as PRO and Michelle Jones as the Assistant PRO.

The work of volunteers and fundraisers over the last year was highly praised on the night, with Simon telling those present that the Hospice Foundation is already looking forward to organising another great year of events in the community.
