QUIZ KIDS WIN BIG AT I.T. TRALEE
THE cleverest primary school students from Kerry and west Limerick took to their answer sheets at the weekend as they went in pursuit of the Chapter 23 Credit Union Quiz titles at IT Tralee, tackling questions on the usual mix of geography, history, music, sport, and more.
The second stage on the way to the prestigious All-Ireland Championships, 20 teams from all over the county and parts of neighbouring Limerick arrived in Tralee to compete across Under-11 and Under-13 grades.
Before an audience of some 400 people – made up of families, teachers and Credit Union representatives – Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn, representing Tralee Credit Union and Gaelscoil Faithleann, representing Killarney, emerged as under-11 and under-13 winners respectively.
Both schools will also be joined by the second-placed teams in both grades: Holy Family National School, representing Rathmore and Spa National School – beaten in a tie-break by Gaelscoil Faithleann – representing Tralee. Glenderry National School of Clanmaurice Credit Union (under-11), and Lissivigeen National School (under-13) of Killarney Credit Union finished third.
MC for the evening, Christy Killeen, thanked quiz master Helen Twomey, adjudicators, correctors, score-keepers, stewards, and Credit Union personnel.
He added that it was “a wonderful occasion and a great learning experience for all,” before complimenting all the participants, teachers, and parents.
