An Ghaeltacht maintain League form with narrow win over Marys

-

An Ghaeltacht 2-14 St Marys 1-15

BOTH sides played each other in quick succession last September between the final round of the League and an Intermediate Championship semi-final which the West Kerry side prevailed in as well all know.

The South Kerry side made the better start here in Bryan Sheehan’s full return to the club as they led by 0-6 to 0-1 early as Paul O’Donoghue and Daniel Daly also contributed to that early advantage.

Cathal Ó Lúing and Padraig Ó Sé scored An Ghaeltacht’s opening points but a goal from Daly had the visitors leading by 1-8 to 0-4 before Dara and Tomas Ó Sé along with Óigí Ó Sé and PJ Mac Laimh had An Gaeltacht back in touch at the break trailing by 1-9 to 0-7.

Two goals in two minutes ultimately changed the course of the game in the hosts favour, both coming from their new as well as last year’s captains as Padraig Ó Sé and Colm Ó Muircheartaigh turned the game on its head somewhat as St Marys still appeared to be in control coming towards the final stages.

Mac Laimh put them in the lead for the first time afterwards as despite a final point from Daly, Mac Laimh and substitute Fearghal Ó Cuanaigh put over the insurance scores in a late turnaround two point win for An Ghaeltacht.
