The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Tough weekend for our teams
UNFORTUNATELY results didn’t go our way in either code last weekend.
The hurlers were beaten by Westmeath meaning they missed out on a place in the final. Now their focus will turn to preparing for the Joe McDonagh Cup. The footballers were beaten by Dublin in Croke Park.
While the second half was disappointing, there were many positives in the first half. If some chances in the first half had resulted in scores, the second half could have been very different. As Éamonn Fitzmaurice said himself after the game, Dublin are ahead of us right now and it’s our job to bridge that gap.
There are two remaining games, home to Kildare on Saturday night and away to Tyrone in the last round. Next weekend’s game throws in at 7pm in the Austin Stack Park. Gates open at 5pm.
Tickets will be on sale on Saturday at the grounds but if you purchase before midnight on Friday in SuperValu, Centra or in the Kerry GAA Store Killarney you will save €3. Admission for Under 16s is free. Big crowds are expected so please arrive early to the grounds.
The proceeds from the programme are going to the Austin Stack Park Committee for the upkeep and maintenance of the grounds.

Data Protection
NEW Data Protection legislation, called the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), is coming into effect in May 2018.
This legislation will have significant implications for GAA Clubs and it important that all of us are aware of our responsibilities regarding data protection. In order to assist GAA Clubs to understand specifically what they must do to comply with the legislation, a number of Data Protection seminars are scheduled during March, one in each Province.
The seminars will start at 7pm and will last approximately 2.5 hours.
Please note that the seminars are a repeat of the one held in Croke Park at the end of last year – if you attended that session, you do not need to re-attend, but you are welcome to do so if you so wish.
This seminar is intended for club officials who will are actively involved in the process of collecting, processing and storing information relating to members on an ongoing basis.
This may be the club registrar or the secretary or another volunteer and it will vary from club to club. Please bring this event to the attention of the relevant person in your club.
The agenda will cover a range of topics and will specifically address the following: An overview of Data Protection legislation; Specific changes arising from GDPR; Tools and supports available to help club’s Data Protection Officer.
The Munster seminar will be held on March 22 in Mallow GAA Club, Cork at 7pm.
