U-14 FRIENDLY Listowel 17 Kilrush 26

KILRUSH were firmly on top in the opening period of this friendly and scored two early converted tries. Listowel began to get a grip on proceedings and Danny Finch replied with an excellent try for the home side.

The comeback didn’t last long however as Kilrush struck for another converted try. Listowel’s Sean Thompson, Conor Murphy, Edward O’Connor and Leo Buckley started to carry the ball with intent and Mick Malacki was able to bulldoze his way through the Kilrush defence to score a try which was converted by Edward O’Connor.

Some further Listowel pressure saw Danny Finch score the final try of the game.

U-16 FRIENDLY Listowel 12 Abbeyfeale 12

LISTOWEL U-16s played out an entertaining draw against Abbeyfeale on Sunday. Abbeyfeale started well with the wind and scored an early converted try to go 7-0 ahead.

Listowel had a number of players in new positions and it took a while to get any continuity. Ethan O’Connor played well while Aaron Mulvihill and Liam Quilter carried superbly but chances went abegging. Listowel conceded a second try late in the half and Abbeyfeale took a 12-0 lead in at the break.

Listowel’s Igor Kwas scored his first try of the season from close range after Kian and Denis Dowling broke the Abbeyfeale defensive line. Ethan O’Connor converted to close the gap to 12-7.

Last ditch tackles from Emmet McAuliffe and Cale Sweeney prevented almost certain Abbeyfeale tries. Ethan O’Connor and Kian Dowling combined to create the opening but Jerome O’Rourke was held up over the try line. From the resultant scrum, Murtie Moriarty broke through numerous tackles to score in the corner to level the game at 12-12.
