Light Opera Society back on the boards with Little Shop of Horrors

ONE of the great Broadway comic musicals hits the stage of Siamsa Tire through the cast of the Light Opera Society of Tralee (LOST). It tells the story of a mysterious, talking carnivorous plant (named Audrey II) with an insatiable appetite which devours everything in sight including, eventually, the entire cast – a sort of Horrible Histories meets Roald Dahl.

The 1982 Broadway show features many toe-tapping early rock and roll songs such as “Skid Row (Downtown)”, “Somewhere That’s Green”, and “Suddenly, Seymour”.

Leading the cast is well-known Killarney-based entertainer and music-theatre artist Jack Patrick Healy who plays the bumbling but sincere Seymour, shop assistant in Mushnik’s Florist Shop on New York’s Skid Row.

Mushnik is played by respected poet, broadcaster and former primary school teacher Sean Lyons. Mounthawk, Tralee, students Sarah Cleary and former Mounthawk student Clodagh Harrington play Audrey, the object of Seymour’s affections, and Sean McElligott is the voice of Audrey II while Marcus Nolan who attends the Green C.B.S. plays the mad dentist Orin
