DARA Ó Cinnéide has been appointed as Munster Regional Manager for RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta.

Mr Ó Cinnéide, a three-time All-Ireland winner with Kerry prior to retiring from inter-county football in 2006, has worked with the Irish-language radio station since 1999.

He takes up the role from Jeaic Ó Muircheartaigh, who recently announced his retirement, and while he admits the challenges facing his native tongue and his radio station are many, he told The Kerryman he is looking forward to the challenge.

“The position was advertised in February and the interviews took place on February 26,” he said. “I’m very happy at the news, and while this is a challenging time for the language and therefore the station, I am looking forward to taking on the challenge. My heart and soul is in Raidió na Gaeltachta and providing a service to the Irish-speaking public.”

From Baile na hAbha, Mr Ó Cinnéide has produced Munster-centred An Saol ó Dheas for over a decade and has contributed greatly to the station’s sports coverage through winter programme An tSraith Náisiúnta and Championship-focused Reacaireacht an Tráthnóna. Away from radio, he served for five years as a panellist on RTÉ’s iconic GAA highlights show “The Sunday Game” while also fronting documentaries for the national broadcaster and “Seó Spóirt” for TG4.
