Sweet success for Killarney Musical Society production
‘SWEET Charity’ tells the story of a girl who wanted to be loved and the show certainly was loved by the throngs of people who packed the INEC for three eventful shows last week.
The show marks Killarney Musical Society’s 33rd production as the romantic trials and tribulations of Charity Hope Valentine, played by Killarney local Lily MacMonagle, captivated audiences.
The Fan-Dango ballroom, the Park by the Lake and New York’s Coney Island were all brought vividly to life thanks to a combination of creativity from Musical Director, John O’Brien; Director Killian Collins, and Choreographer Daniel ‘Cheech’ Maguire. But it was the cast who ultimately delivered a seamless performance as a mix of music and dance bedazzled patrons.
Irene Hurley is PRO of Killarney Musical Society and she praised the hard work of a dedicated cast who have put in long rehearsals since last November.
“Our backstage crew, front of house team and, of course, the committee who put in lots of work behind the scenes, must be commended, as must the costume, props, stage crew and all our volunteers that helped during the week of the show,” said Irene.
All these members play a vital part in the success of the show and Irene said their input, help and dedication to Killarney Musical Society is greatly appreciated.
Irene added: “We would also like to thank all of our patrons and sponsors for their continued financial support as this support is vital to the success of the society and we are truly grateful. Our main sponsor again this year was Independent Irish Health Foods Ltd and we thank them for their support, it is very much appreciated. We look forward to another fantastic show for 2019 and work will commence again in the autumn.”
