County hurling league gets underway over St Patrick’s weekend

THE Credit Union Co. Senior hurling league Division 1 (Nicholas Scollard Cup) got underway last weekend with first round wins for Abbeydorne­y, Kilmoyley, Causeway and Crotta.

The opening game saw Kilmoyley defeat Lixnaw on Thursday evening at the John Mitchel’s Complex by 1-14 to 0-15. On Friday, under lights at Abbeydorne­y, the home side had a 3-12 to 2-8 win over Ballyduff while on St Patricks morning at the newly developed Dromakee venue, Crotta O’Neills had a 2-17 to 0-13 win over Ballyheigu­e. On Monday at Ardfert, Causeway had a one point win over St. Brendan’s, 0-19 to 3-9.

Round 2 games for this weekend are: Ballyduff v Lixnaw; Kilmoyley v Crotta O’Neill’s; Ballyheigu­e v St. Brendans and Causeway v Abbeydorne­y. Check with clubs locally for exact fixture details.

DUE to the adverse weather conditions, only one game went ahead in the Lee Strand Under 16 County Hurling League round 1 ties last weekend. Played at the John Mitchel’s Complex, this game ended level, Tralee Parnell’s 2-3 Kilmoyley 1-6.

Round 2 is fixed for this Sunday, March 25 at 4pm: Division 1 - Abbeydorne­y v Kenmare/Kilgarvan; Ballyheigu­e v Ballyduff; Crotta bye. Division 2 - Kenmare/Kilgarvan v Tralee Parnells; Kilmoyley v Lixnaw; St. Brendan’s bye. Round 3 will be played on Thursday, 29 March at 6.30p.m. Timmy Weir (Abbeydorne­y) is the Under 16 hurling co-ordinator.

The second of the Under 10 Hurling Super Games blitz series takes place on this Saturday, 24 March in the John Mitchel’s Complex from 11am – 1pm. The Lee Strand Under 12 hurling leagues will commence on Friday, April 6. John Ross (Ballyduff) will be the co-ordinator for this competitio­n.

Hurling Cúl Camps 2018

THE 2018 Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camps for Hurling in Kerry will take place as follows: Ardfert & Rathmore (2 – 6 July), Lixnaw & Ballyduff (9 - 13 July); Ballyheigu­e & Kenmare (16 - 20 July); Abbeydorne­y & Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney (23 - 27 July); Causeway (30 July – 3 August); Crotta O’Neill’s – Dromakee (6 – 10 August) and Kilmoyley & Tralee Parnell - Caherslee (13 – 17 August).

Cost for 2018 remains at €60 per child with reductions for additional members of families. Open to primary school children, boys and girls between 6 and 13 years of age. Mondays to Fridays, 10am – 2.30pm. daily. Further details at www.kelloggscu­lcamps.gaa.ie

Clubs

THE Tralee Parnells hurling Academy for children born from 2005 – 2013 continues on Tuesday next, March 27 from 6pm at Tralee Sports Complex. The club will also hold an Easter Hurling Camp from Monday, March 26 to Wednesday, March 28, from 10am to 1pm each day.

SHANE Nolan and Colum Harty will run a Hurling Developmen­t Camp at Dromakee from April 3-6.
