Sinead back where it all began

-

WELL-known and highly experienced Kerry journalist Sinead Kelleher is the latest addition to The Kerryman’s award winning news team.

Originally from Kilgarvan, Sinead began her career with The Kerryman in 2004 after a short stint with Radio Kerry.

She worked for The Kerryman until 2007 when she took time off to go travelling and then worked as a freelance journalist for a number of papers including The Irish Examiner and The Irish Daily Star.

Sinead joined Kerry’s Eye in 2009 and worked there until this year.

She has now returned to her journalistic roots in The Kerryman where she will work primarily on the South Kerry Edition, a paper which she says helped inspire her to get into journalism and which has always been close to her heart.

She loves working in local newspapers and believes that they play a huge role in the county.

Though originally from Kilgarvan, she also has strong ties to Kenmare and Sneem.

The Kerryman prides itself on highlighting grass roots issues in local communities and it’s the perfect fit for Sinead who loves telling the stories of the people and places of Kerry.

“I love to meet people and I feel that local newspapers are vital in sharing people’s news and stories... I love South Kerry and I am looking forward to ensuring that the South Kerry edition continues to provide excellent stories and interviews.”

The Kerryman’s Group Editor Kevin Hughes worked with Sinead during her first stint in The Kerryman and says she will add an extra local dimension to the publication. “Sinead’s track record is second to none when it comes to promoting all that is local and she is the ideal fit to help drive the South Kerry edition and consolidate its long-held reputation.”

As well as her newspaper duties, Sinead is also the co-author of ‘Behind the Face’, a book which tells the stories behind Kerry’s international residents.

She was previously involved with the production of a history book ‘Kilgarvan Moments and Memories’. A keen runner and triathlete, Sinead also kept the county entertained with a popular blog on her first marathon. Sinead is PRO of Tralee Triathlon Club, Chairperson of Tralee Educate Together and is on the board of Tralee International Resource Centre.
