Specsaver’s team peddle for charity

- By SIMON BROUDER

THE team at Specsavers in Tralee are hosting an unusual charity cycle this weekend to help raise funds for a colleague who is heading to Africa in a few months as part of a charity mission.

Staff at the Specsavers’ branch on Castle Street will be raising money for Vision Aid Overseas by holding a stationary charity cycle, in the shop, on Saturday, March 31.

For the last 10 years Specsavers Ireland has been working closely with Vision Aid Overseas helping in the fight against poverty in developing countries by providing access to eye care.

In May Specsavers Tralee staff member Éanna Brassil – along with a colleague from Galway – will travel to Ethiopia to volunteer for the charity.

While in Ethiopia, Éanna will be conducting eye tests, educating people about how to keep their eyes healthy and providing them with glasses.

Specsavers Tralee Store Director Maura O’Donnell said everyone at the shop was delighted to be able to do their bit and help fund Éanna’s volunteer mission.

“We are delighted to support Éanna’s trip to Ethiopia with Vision Aid Overseas and are very proud of him for taking on this challenging experience. We hope that the local community will also show their support by joining us in store on Saturday to cheer us on during the charity cycle,” she said.

Staff members will be taking it in turns to peddle for charity and the team are also hoping a few customers will volunteer to hop on the bike and cycle a kilometre or two to add to the fundraising tally.
