11 ambassadors aim to boost mid Kerry’s tourism
COUNCIL, IT TRALEE, AND DESTINATION KERRY LOOK TO FOLLOW THE EXAMPLE OF NORTH KERRY’S PROGRAMME
MINISTER Brendan Griffin TD was among those in attendance to welcome participants of the ‘Tourism Ambassador Programme’ for the mid-Kerry area, part of a tourism initiative put together by Kerry County Council and a number of other parties.
Killorglin and mid-Kerry has 11 new tourism ambassadors now that the programme for the area has been completed.
The first night of the course took place recently, where the Minister of State for Transport, Tourism and Sport was present alongside other representatives.
The programme has been developed by the local authority’s Tourism Unit in partnership with the Destination Kerry Tourism Forum and the Institute of Technology Tralee (ITT).
According to a Kerry County Council [KCC] spokesperson, the programme participants stem from a wide range of businesses and organisations connected to tourism in the Killorglin and mid-Kerry areas.
The two-night course provided an overview of local tourism, as well as the important role of tourism in the mid-Kerry region. Also addressed by the course was the crucial role of cross-selling businesses in the region with the aim of increasing the length of time tourists spend in mid Kerry, as well as boosting visitors’ experiences during their trips.
“Mary Rose Stafford and Feargus Dunne, lecturers from IT Tralee’s Hotel, Culinary and Tourism Department, delivered the two-night course,” Kerry County Council’s Owen O’Shea said.
“The programme was previously rolled out in north Kerry,” Mr O’Shea continued, “where 13 Ambassadors completed the course, and it is planned to roll out the programme to other parts of the county in the near future.”
