Lixnaw prepares to celebrate seventh Dawn Mass on Easter Sunday in Kiltoney Graveyard

-

HUNDREDS of people are expected to travel to Lixnaw this Sunday, April 1, for what will be the seventh annual Easter dawn mass, which will begin at 6am.

It is the seventh year of the mass which will take place in Kiltomey Graveyard at 6am.

The event has attracted large crowds in the past with people from every corner of the county travelling to the area to attend the celebration.

Parish Priest Fr Mossie Brick will celebrate the mass which has become a great tradition locally.

Hundreds of people are expected as Lixnaw lights the Easter fire in a tradition started by the country’s patron Saint.

The faithful will gather to celebrate the resurrection and during the Spiritual occasion will watch dawn break, hoping to see the sun dance in the sky, as is tradition, going back centuries.

The event is organised by a group of locals who have been working very hard ahead of Sunday’s Mass, sourcing pallets, building the fire, organising stewarding and music.

The local committee have also organised for signs to be erected to help those traveling to the area locate the graveyard. Off-road parking will be available on the morning. None of this would be possible without the co-operation of two local farmers who give the field and allow parking on their property.
