The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Summit runs to Dingle Bay
A week-long “Running Summit” is to take place in west Kerry’s Skellig Hotel over the weekend of May 26 and 27.
Co-founded by local man Shane Finn and Barry Murray, the duo will be joined by co-host Catherina McKiernan, a legend in Irish athletics circles as the country’s female marathon record holder and winner of both the London and Berlin Marathons. Billed as a one-stop shop for runners of all abilities, event organiser Finn will be well-known to Kerry folk having completed 24 marathons in 24 days on behalf of Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland last year. He is currently preparing to journey across America in 36 days through a combination of running and cycling.
Murray is a well-known ultra-marathon runner having competed and triumphed in some of the continent’s biggest events. He is also an acclaimed endurance nutritionist who has worked with some of the biggest names in his field. Delegates can enjoy a range of Chi running workshops, demonstrations, and seminars, as well as a comfortable coastal trail run to get matters started.
“The Sunday morning will see delegates take a coach to Slea Head where they will get an opportunity to get a run in on Slea Head and of course the iconic Dingle Marathon route,” Mr Finn said. “The Running Summit is suitable for all types of runners but it is going to be especially beneficial to the average runner who wants to get to the next level, complete that first half or full marathon, or maybe drop ten minutes.”
Limited to 100 people, more information is at www.runningsummitireland.com, and early-bird are available until March 31 via the website.
