O’Rahillys and Spa lead the way in top flight

Kerins O’Rahilly’s 2-13 St Mary’s 2-6

THE good start to their return to the top flight continued for Spa with Kerins O’Rahillys joining them in a share of the lead by also winning their second game at the weekend. O’Rahillys benefitted from another strong performanc­e by Tommy Walsh in getting the better of St Marys by seven points on home turf. They had scored the first three points before Paul O’Donoghue scored the South Kerry side’s first point but a combinatio­n of Barry John Keane and Walsh helped Strand Road to a 0-6 to 0-3 lead at half-time.

A Conor O’Shea goal helped St Marys back into contention in the second period but John C O’Connor alongside Walsh and Keane helped O’Rahillys to an advantage of 1-12 to 1-4 after 52 minutes, Keane the Strand Road goalscorer. Daniel Daly did give St Marys some hope of salvaging something with their second goal but Rory Molloy scored a second for the hosts in guiding them on to a 2-13 to 2-6 win.

An Ghaeltacht 1-12 Spa 2-11

SPA finished well in getting the better of An Gaeltacht out in Gallarus meanwhile as Niall despite an early McCarthy goal meant they would trail by 1-7 to

1-5 at halftime,

Dara Ó Sé finding the back of the net for the hosts.

Dara and Óigí Ó Sé extended An Ghaeltacht’s advantage further after the restart but Mike O’Donoghue’s goal after 40 minutes had Spa back in front at 2-8 to 1-9. It remained tight for the remainder of proceeding­s but Evan Cronin and O’Donoghue put over the winning points for the East Kerry side late on in a 2-11 to 1-12 victory.

Dr Crokes 2-14 Beaufort 0-10

DR Crokes didn’t dwell too long on their 16 match winning streak coming to an end with that draw with Glenbeigh/Glencar on the opening day as two second-half goals helped them to a 2-14 to 0-10 victory over Beaufort in Lewis Road after the former All-Ireland Senior Club Champions had shaded a tight first period by 0-7 to 0-6.

Legion 1-13 Templenoe 1-17

ONLY three sides are undefeated in the table after the first two rounds as Templenoe got their first points away to Legion with a 1-17 to 1-13 victory. The Kenmare Dis- trict side enjoyed an advantage of eight points a one stage with Pat Spillane Junior getting their goal as Patrick Clifford, Teddy Doyle, Stephen O’Sullivan and John Rice impressed for the victors. 11 points for Jamie O’Sullivan and 1-2 for Conor Keane were amongst the few positives for the hosts in their loss.

John Mitchels 1-13 Dingle 0-9

JOHN Mitchels got on the board with a 1-13 to 0-9 win over Dingle in Ballyseedy, James Duggan and Niall Sheehy amongst their first-half scorers in taking a lead of 0-7 to 0-4 at the break as Cathal Bambury scored two points for Dingle. Mitchels led by 0-12 to 0-6 at the three-quarter mark and effectivel­y ensured their victory when Duggan scored their goal late on in a seven point success.

Rathmore 3-13 Glenbeigh-Glencar 2-13

RATHMORE got their first points as they edged a high scoring encounter with Glenbeigh/Glencar by 3-13 to 2-13 on home turf. After both sides started with 0-3 apiece, John Moynihan scored a goal from the penalty spot for Rathmore. Gavan O’Grady responded instantly from the kick-out with Glenbeigh/Glencar’s first goal but the third goal in a four minute spell was Rathmore’s through Donal Moynihan in leading by 2-7 to 1-8 at the break.

A third goal for Rathmore and a second from John Moynihan two minutes after the restart gave them further control as despite a Jason McKenna goal and a Fergal Griffin point bringing the Mid Kerry side back within one, Mark Ryan and Eoin Lawlor put over the scores that ensured the host’s three point success.
