MUNSTER J3 LEAGUE PLAY-OFFS Dungarvan 15 Killorglin 10

KILLORGLIN made the long journey to Dungavan but came away disappointed as the home side claimed a Round 1 play-off victory over the visitors.

The sides traded penalties early on with Luke O’Shea slotting one over for Killarney. Dungarvan piled on the pressure but Kyle Byrne made a brilliant try saving tackle. Straight afterwards Dungarvan rucked well and Danny Slevin scored a try in the corner for them.

Killorglin didn’t let this setback get to them and were unlucky not to get over the line on the stroke of half time when they knocked on with a try at their mercy.

Dungarvan struck for their second try early in the second half when Andy Carey touched down with Dave Hickey landing the conversion to push them 15-3 ahead.

The Killorglin heads didn’t drop and they put savage pressure on the Dungarvan defence. A five metre scrum and good push from Killorglin resulted in Brian Hayes crashing over the Dungarvan line to score a try with O’Shea landing the conversion. Killorglin pressed hard for the remainder of the game, but Dungarvan held out to claim a 15-10 win.

MUNSTER CLUB UNDER-16 BOWL Killorglin 15 Bantry 26

IT was all Killorglin in the early stages of this home tie and eventually their pressure paid off when Shogie O’Sullivan crossed for a try after a series of good pick and goes from the home side.

O’Sullivan also added the conversion to put his side 7-0 ahead. Bantry replied straight afterwards with a try and conversion of their own after a number of errors by the home side. On the stroke of half-time Bantry struck a penalty to see them go in 10-7 ahead at the break.

An early break from James Byrne saw O’Sullivan go over for his second try just after half-time to push Killorglin 14-10 ahead. Bantry weren’t to be out done and crashed over for two converted tries with a penalty from Killorglin’s O’Sullivan proving to be mere consolation for the home side.

The final scoreline flattered the visitors and Killorglin had fine performances from Daragh Mangan, James Byrne, Conal Whelan and Jack O’Brien.

DIVISION 1 WOMEN’S LEAGUE Tralee 17 Thurles 0

TRALEE defeated a very good Thurles side in what was an excellent performance from the home team. Fine performances from captain Mary Collins,Eileen Dillane, Nuala O’Connor and Shona Lynch aid the platform for Tralee whilst Fleming, Garvey and Healy were excellent in the back row. Tralee’s Ayesha Roche was also outstanding at scrum half where her crisp passing and accurate distribution was vital to her sides’ win.
