The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Teen photo talents in bright focus
SECONDARY STUDENTS URGED TO ENTER PHOTO COMPETITION PICTURE PERFECT BY END OF THE MONTH
BUDDING junior photographers across Kerry have the opportunity to have their talent discovered and their work displayed thanks to the “Picture Perfect” photography competition. The competition, being run in conjunction with Go Kerry.ie, Domnick Walsh Photography, and The Kerryman, is entirely for secondary students in a great opportunity to help them develop and showcase their talents behind the lens.
Following on from the success of the competition last year, entries are once again flying in this year and it will be a difficult decision for the judges who will have to choose an overall winner.
Well know award-winning photographer, Domnick Walsh, says that entries this year are of a very high-standard. “There really is a wealth of talented photographers in Kerry. We have got some fantastic photos from across the county coming in again this year and it is an absolute pleasure to examine them all,” he said.
All entries will be displayed in a special exhibition at Kerry County Library throughout the month of May with a selection of the photos to be printed in a special supplement in The Kerryman of May 9.Each entry will also receive a mayoral acknowledgement. There will be two categories this year to cater for first to third year students and from fourth year to sixth year. There is also an overall winner in each category and these winners will have their photograph used in Go Kerry media platforms to help promote Kerry.
Last year’s winner was Grace Eileen McElligott, a student of Tarbert Comprehensive, whose stunning photo of Ballybunion beach captured the glory of this wonderful location.
There is only one month left in the competition so junior photographers are being asked to get out into the rugged beauty of our county and capture wonderful images of the Kingdom at its very best.
The deadline for entries is Friday, April 27 and entries can be emailed to info@gokerry.ie or posted to Go Kerry Library Place, Killorglin.
