The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Outstanding in its Field - Bull & Co clean up!
“WELCOME to my world” said rising Hollywood Star, Barry Keoghan, to the cast of the seven OsKaRs films premiered in the INEC on Thursday night and they might all certainly make an impression on Hollywood if their debut acting is anything to go by.
It was more than a difficult decision for the Barry and his co-judges, Killarney actor Donal Courtney and Maeve McGrath of Kerry Film Festival who had to choose the winning OsKaRs.
There was silence in the INEC as the golden envelopes were passed over and opened to see who had won at the Hollywood-style ceremony.
The key award of any OsKaR ceremony is Best Film and there was unanimous support for The Field which richly deserved the support as the 10 minute local version stunned the audience into silence.
It was equally deserving that Best Actor on the night went to Derry Healy as the Bull McCabe and Best Supporting Actor was none other than The Bird played by Kevin O Riordan, channelling John Hurt.
It was over to A Few Good Women for Best Actress which was won by Rosie Healy keeping the top OsKaRS of the night on the mantelpiece in Glenflesk with husband and wife duo, Roise and Derry, bringing home the big titles.
Best supporting actress was Tricha O’Callaghan in Forrest Gump who gave an outstanding performance as Forrest’s dying mother.
The Best producer Award went to Donal Dwyer for Michael Collins and most promising young actress went to Janette O’Donoghue.
Meanwhile, the Best Costume gongs went to the production of A Few Good Women, resplendent in their military garb.
The OsKaRs weren’t the only winners on the night with Kerry footballer Aidan O’Mahony and his wife, Denise, on hand to pick out the best style on the red carpet and the winners were Norma Leane and Padraig Creedon.
But the big winners on the night were, of course, Kilcummin and Glenflesk GAA clubs whose organising committee members were overwhelmed by the massive response.
