South Kerry calls out in force for its Scór na bPáistí finals in Dromid
SCÓR na bPáistí Babtha Ceannais Chiarraí Theas took place on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Halla na Dromoda.
Local club participation from Valentia, Waterville, Foilmore, Dromod, Renard and Caherciveen was high throughout the eight categories.
Daire and Caoimhe Nic Cionaoith, Saibh Ní Chonraoi and Kara Ní Sheanacháin, following dance instruction at Ina’s School of Dancing, participated in the Rince Foirne/Four-Hand Reel.
Seán Ó Loinsigh sang ‘Dingle Bay’ for Amhránaíocht Aonair whilst Jeaic Ó Corráin recited the great local poem by the late Patrick Ó Connell, ‘South Kerry Final, Valentia versus Waterville 1979’, in the category of Aithriseoireacht.
Under the guidance of Mary Gallagher, Cormac Ó hUallacháin, Dervlah Ní Éalaithe, Fionán Ó hÉalaithe, Kara Ní Sheanacháin and Seán Ó Loinsigh sang ‘Thugamar Féin an Samhradh Linn’ and ‘ ’Mo Ghile Mear’’ for an Grúpa Bailéid.
Under the instruction of Sean Ó Laoighre for Léiriú, Oisín Ó Conaill, Jeaic Ó Corráin, Mícheál Ó Loinsigh, Fionán Ó hÉalaithe, Caoimhín Ó Conchubhair, Mícheál Ó Suilleabháin, Emmet Ó Dálaigh, and Sean Ó Drisceoil imagined what it would be like if Oisín came back from Tír na nÓg in search of Fionn Mac Cumhail but instead ended up helping the Kerry hurling team to victory!
In Ceol Uirlise, under the guidance of traditional musician Marion Cournane, Saoirse Ní Chonraoi (flúit, bosca ceoil), Máire Clár Ní Dhálaigh (bosca ceoil), Emily Nic Gabhann (feadóg stain) and Liam Mac Gabhann (consairtín) played a barn dance, ‘The Hills of Tara’, and Johnny Ó Leary’s Polka.
Finally, with input from dance teacher Rebecca Galvin, the Valentia Set Dancers, Orla agus Keelin Ní Shé, Saidhb agus Saoirse Ní Chonraoi, Tessie Ní Shuilleabháin, Máire Clár Ní Dhálaigh, Dervlah Ní Éalaithe and Lynda Ní Dhrisceoil participated in the last event of the evening.
Oifigigh cultúir, Jackie Murphy and Sorcha Ní Mhurchú, on behalf of the Valentia GAA Club, would like to thank all the children for their high level of engagement in Scór practices over the last few months and for the great performances on the night.
Thanks also to the parents for committing to the practices and thanks to the tutors, Ina Dwyer, Mary Gallagher, Marion Cournane, and Rebecca Galvin for dedicating their time and energy towards developing the children of the island.
We wish to express our gratitude to manager of the Community Centre Ursula Uí Shé and to Aisling at the Ring Lyne for providing space for the practices to take place.
Jeaic Ó Corráin came second in recitation and Sean Ó Loinsigh came second in solo singing.
The music group came first and advanced to the semi finals in Glenbeigh Community Centre on April 8, 2018.
