RALLY FANS BRAVE THE CHILL

GREAT TURNOUT FOR MAURICE COLLINS VINTAGE DESPITE CHILLY WEATHER

- By STEPHEN FERNANE

IT was a bit chilly and overcast for an Easter Sunday but this didn’t deter the members of The Maurice Collins Vintage Rally Committee from pressing ahead with another hugely successful event in Ardfert.

The weather can never be trusted and it was thanks to Ardfert Quarry who supplied their grounds for the day which made it comfortable for exhibitors and patrons. Joe McCarthy is Chairman of The Maurice Collins Vintage Rally Committee and he praised the massive effort involved to ensure the day is a success.

“It was very successful and it’s thanks to all the people who make the day possible. It wasn’t the best of day’s weather wise, but credit is due to the public who came out in great numbers,” Joe said.

Joe praised the exhibitors who travelled from as far away as Tipperary and Clare. Supporting charity is another important aspect of the day and this year’s beneficiaries are the Palliative Care Unit and Down Syndrome Kerry. Last year’s rally managed to raise over €13,000 which they hope to match, or even better, once this year’s proceeds are counted.

“We support vintage rallies in other counties and they support ours. It’s great how it works. I also want to thank our workers, sponsors and volunteers, many of whom are not members of the committee but still contribute so much to make the rally happen.”

Joe concluded: “We’re at this since last February and there is a lot of organising involved. Thankfully, we were able to fall back on our plan B because on the day as the field was too wet. Ardfert Quarry must be thanked for providing their facilities.”
