Ballyfoilmore and Fossa make the early running

-

St Mls-Foilmore 0-15 St Pats 0-11

ST Michaels-Foilmore gained bragging rights over St Pats and put themselves in a great position to challenge for a semi-final.

The Ballyfoilmore men laid down an early marker as to their intentions opening out a five point lead with only eleven minutes played. St Pats’, however, struck back through captain David O’Callaghan with two points on-the-trot.

O’Callaghan was also involved in his side’s third consecutive point when his quick free found Paul McMahon, who was unmarked to point from close range.

St Michaels-Foilmore finished the half strongly with further points from Kevin Cronin and Alan Smith to give them a 0-8 0-6 lead.

St Pats started the second half positively, but inter-county player, Mark Griffin, playing in centre-field, seized control of the game. His ball distribution often resulting in points for his side as they ran out comfortable enough winners in Cromane come the close of play. The result will hugely buoy the Division 4 outfit.

Fossa 1-12 Keel 0-11

A GOOD start is half the battle they say and that certainly turned out to be the case for Fossa in this year’s championship.

The Seamus Moynihan managed outfit started this game in JP O’Sullivan Park in whirlwind fashion, racing into an early lead with two frees from David Clifford and a goal from Donald O’Sullivan after six minutes.

They added two further points from Tadgh O’Shea and O’Sullivan before Keel got on the scoreboard and led 1-4 to 0-1 after 15 minutes. Keel, however, were never going to lie down and take it. They fashioned a response and were back to within four at the half-time break – 1-7 to 0-6 – with all to play for in the second half and what a second half it turned out to be.

Aaron Murphy was Keel’s main scoring threat, he kicked seven points in all, but the East Kerry side kept their noses in front courtesy of two superb points from Paudie Clifford. Further scores from Tadgh O’Shea and Matt Rennie saw Fossa run out four point winners.

Defeat puts Keel in a tough spot straight away, but will do wonders for this Fossa side.
