Padraig Potts guide to walking is the title of a play coming to Scartaglin Heritage Centre on this Sunday evening April 8th at 8pm. This is a one man show written, and acted by Seamus O’Rourke who is a Leitrim man. Admission is €15 and bookings should be made to 087 2434000. This is an excellent and profession­al production and is well worth seeing.

RAMBLING HOUSE

The next Rambling House get together in the Heritage Centre Scartaglen will be on Monday evening next April 9th commencing at 9pm (Note new starting time for summer season). As always Admission is free with a raffle and refreshmen­ts on the night -- All are welcome.

AFTERNOON OF PRAYER

The next Afternoon of Prayer in Our Lady of Lourdres Church Scartaglen will be on Sunday April 15th when Janice and Moss Carrig will again be present. The Rosary will start the prayer afternoon at 2.30pm and everyone is welcome.

CANCER BENEFIT DANCE

Knockeenah­one’s Timmy O’Connor is providing musical entertainm­ent for a benefit dance in aid of the Kerry-Cork cancer link bus in the River Island Hotel Castleisla­nd on Sunday April 29th from 2pm to 5.30pm. This function is being organised by the Kerry Cancer Support Group. There will be tea and refreshmen­ts as well as a raffle on the afternoon. Tickets cost €10 and they can be purchased in advance or at the door on the day in question.

SPEED CONTROL MEASURES

Following representa­tions made by Clrs John Joe Culloty and Brendan Cronin two solar powered speed indicators have now been erected on the approach roads to Scartaglin village. One is at Kearneys boreen and the other is adjacent to Bernard Cronins house. The indicators should help to improve safety on this busy road as they show what speed you are doing or more importantl­y what speed you should be doing. Whither road users will observe adhere and obey the limits is entirely another days work but the erection of these speed indicators is a step in the right direction in the hope of reducing the speed of passing vehicles in a busy built up area where church goers, school children, shoppers and local residents are concerned.

TEA DANCE

Sliabh Luachra Active Retired Network are holding a Tea Dance in The River Island Hotel Castleisla­nd on Sunday next April 8th commencing at 2pm. This function is being hosted by Castleisla­nd Active Retired Group. Usual tea dance buses available, for enquiries contact Mary at (087) 6956817.

CONFIRMATI­ON DAY

Confirmati­on day for the greater Castleisla­nd parish will be on Friday April 27th. The confirmati­on ceremony will be held in Castleisla­nd Parish Church on that afternoon starting at 3.30pm with Bishop Ray Browne administer­ing the Sacrament.

GAA LOTTO DRAW

Scartaglin GAA clubs latest lotto draw took place in O’Connors bar on Sunday night March 25th. The jackpot was €2800 and was not won. Numbers drawn were 1, 2, 4, 14 Consolatio­n prize winners in the lucky dip’ draw were as follows €40 Timothy Kerins, Knockrour €30 Anna Kerins, Knockrour €30 Ann Mangan Killorglin €20 each to Mike Murphy Scartaglen Village, Seamus Riordan Barna, Louise Holland c/o Ellen O Sullivan The next draw is in Kearney’s Bar on Saturday April 14th for a Jackpot of €3000.

SOCIAL AFTERNOON

Castleisla­nd and District Social Club are holding a social afternoon in Castleisla­nd Daycare Centre on Sunday April 8th. Entertainm­ent will be from 2pm to 5pm and all are welcome.

COUNTY CLEAN UP DAY

Saturday April 14th has been earmarked as county clean up day for 2018 which is being sponsored by Kerry County Council in conjunctio­n with KWD Recycling Ltd. The local Developmen­t Group are seeking volunteers for that morning to do their annual clean up approach roads to Scartaglen Village. Refuse sacks, gloves and pics will be provided. People in this area who would like to volunteer and help out with this clean up but who may not be available on the day in question can pick up roadside rubbish any day in the week prior to the clean up day and leave the refuse sacks near the recycling bins adjacent to Riordan’s garage.

PERMANENT DEACONS

The diocese of Kerry is seeking permanent Deacons to help serving priests in some parishes throughout the county. At present, five Deacons are in various parishes of the diocese. The diaconate is open to married men aged between 30 and 60 years of age and to unmarried men aged between 35 and 60 years of age. The programme of preparatio­n and subsequent ministry are part-time. Initial contact should be made before the end of April. The course for preparatio­n begins in September 2018.
